Kinect for Windows hardware and accompanying version 1 software will be available on February 1, 2012 in 12 countries at a suggested retail price of US $249.
Kinect for Windows hardware will be available through a variety of resellers and distributors.
The price includes a one-year warranty, support, and access to software updates for both speech and human tracking, based on Microsoft’s ongoing deep investment in NUI .
The Kinect for Windows Software Development Kit (SDK) will be free of cost, and there will be no fees for runtime licenses of commercial applications developed with this SDK.
The runtime license will require the use of the new Kinect for Windows sensor.
This product will be available with a suggested list price of USD $249.
Later this year, microsoft will offer special academic pricing (planned at US $149) for Qualified Educational Users.
Microsoft resellers will be selling the Kinect for Windows sensor, targeted at developers and commercial customers. We will have a full list of resellers that we will share when we launch on February 1. Additionally, we are pleased to announce that the Kinect for Window sensor will be available on Amazon at launch.
The boxed product includes the Kinect for Windows sensor, USB/power supply cable, and a user’s manual.
The Kinect for Windows SDK will continue to be free to anyone wanting to innovate with Kinect + Windows
